How does the Australian Working Holiday Visa work
Hi guys. Simon here from Go Study Australia, and I’m gonna give you a few quick facts about the Working Holiday visa. It’s called the 417 visa, or if you’re in Spain and some other countries, you could also take on the Work and Holiday visa, which is the 462 visa.
First of all, it’s not open to everybody. Only certain countries are eligible for the Working Holiday or Work and Holiday visa. Likewise, there is an age limit. Depending on what country you’re from, you can apply up to the age of 30 or 35.
Now, while you’re on a Working Holiday visa, you can study up to 17 weeks, so that means if you would like to improve your English while you’re studying in Australia, you can study up to 17 weeks, no problems. Or, if you’d like to take a short course or a short study abroad course, you can also do that without moving onto a Student visa.

Right. You are going to need to meet minimum language requirements. That is a Cambridge CAE certificate or an IELTS 4.5 in order to get approved. You’re also gonna need to have higher education experience in order to be approved for the Working Holiday visa as well.
Now, you can extend your Working Holiday visa beyond the first year by undertaking 88 days of approved farm work in a regional area. And lastly, you can only work for the same employer in the same location for a maximum of six months. Generally, you should not be planning to work for one employer for more than six months unless they have multiple locations that you can work from.
